Hugo Wetterberg commentedHi Alex,
Looking at your code I realize that I must've used it as a starting point for what I had in mind with nodeformcols. Either that, or we had a common starting point somewhere else, but that's less likely. At Ieast I do remember _not_ coming up with the weight+template_preprocess_node_form method myself.
I think that we'll have get a IRC / IM session going to iron ut the details and need of compatibility. But I'm wondering if nodeformcols and node_form_template aren't two naturally conflicting modules, as nfc aims to "theme" the form through a interface and nft aims to theme the form through templates. If the site builder wants to write a theme for the form, there really is no need for nfc. As the opposite isn't really true, one thing I've been thinking of for the future of nodeformcols is deep rearranging and assignment of #template of the form and its elements through the administration interface.
Cheers
/Hugo

spydmobile commentedThanks for looking into this guys! Having both modules in one system would result in unprecidented flexibilty if it can be done!

Hugo Wetterberg commentedHey Alex, have you gotten any idéas on how to combine our modules? I just realized that it's possible to use node-form.tpl.php in the theme to style the form when just nodeformcols is installed. What is missing from nodeformcols, functionality-wise, compared to node_form_template? I would be happy to co-maintain nodeformcols with you, if you're interested?

effulgentsia commentedThanks Hugo. I'm very interested in thinking about how to merge these modules. I haven't taken the time yet to think this through, and I have a few other things keeping me busy for at least the next couple weeks. But I'll be in touch with you as soon as I can devote a little time to looking at this. You've been doing a great job maintaining this module. It'll be a pleasure to work with you.
