Would it be difficult convert some of this back to d5? If not, hints would be appreciated!

Patches / contributions welcome. I am happy to create a D5 release if code is contributed for it.
#273648: Node/Page Title instead of Menu Item Title as an option suggests that this functionality was in core D5 anyway?
If no code is contributed, I will close this issue when D7 is released.
