Has anyone implemented a raw XML parser for Feedapi yet?

I thought this is a rather common task to parse a raw XML feed yet this module only supports standard ATOM/RSS feeds out-of-the-box. Someone must have done something like that, right? Please share the raw XML parser.

I need to parse something like: http://w3schools.com/xml/simple.xml

I have done something similar when I worked on another CMS platform, Expression Engine. http://expressionengine.com/wiki/XML_Parsing_Tool/

It is rather frustrated that I have to roll my own whenever I move to another CMS. Sigh...
