Ive made drupal site on my computer, and have a domain name. I have a hosting provider but they arent very good.

So before i change my hosting provider I was wondering if I was able to host my own site from my own computer, under the domain I have.

Is it possible to do this and how? Thanks

You can host your own website, of course, but you must have:

  • A stable Internet connection with a static IP address that you can provide to your DNS provider.
  • An Internet provider that allows you to do so (read the TOS document you signed when you got your Internet connection).
  • Adequate uploading bandwidth. Home connections typically are asymmetrical.
  • Expertise in managing a firewall, configuring your network so that the server is in a DMZ, accessible via Port 80.

I wouldn't recommend doing this on Windows, as it's swiss cheese for Internet rats when it comes to security.

I run a Linux-based server at home, hosting half a dozen very low-volume sites. I use http://www.mydns.com/ (free) for most of them, and http://www.easydns.com/ (fee) for my primary domain. EasyDNS acts as an email spooler/relay, allowing me to host my own mail server as well as web servers.
