Option to Replace Status Dropdown with Individual Links

Suppose there are 3 available signup statuses. Currently, the user must select a status, then click "sign up". If we replaced the select list and the signup button with simple links for each status (such as "going, might go, not going" etc) the user could sign up and indicate status with a single click. This should probably be a configurable option rather than the standard.

I realize there are higher priority issues for the Drupal 6 release, but this still seems worthwhile. Thoughts?
