Full Flex based interface with Drupal
We recently designed and helped launch a Food and Spirits Recipe site for one of our client. The site consists of four main sections dealing with food and spirits, and overall the site contains information on mixing and matching food with spirits with an extensive list of cocktails.
A visually impressive graphical look-and-feel was desired for the site (preferably in flash) along with the facility to easily update the site.
The whole user interface has been designed in Adobe Flex that draws data elements from drupal backend with the Services API doing the bulk of the work.
The data structure in the site has been kept simple and we created simple CCK content types to represent them.
Drupal Notes:
Drupal Version in use: 5.X
When the site work was started the 6 version was still in early stages, so we decided to base it on drupal 5.
Modules:
CCK
Views
Taxonomy
Services
AMFPHP
SWFAddress
It was a challenging work and in the end all were very satisfied with the outcome. We are happy to show a live example of the real power of drupal and its capabilities.

Interesting to see drupal
Interesting to see drupal used as a backend for flash. It certainly makes sense, as you get to leverage the full content management features that drupal provides.
Not really sure why flash was chosen for a project like this, most of the features i could see could be implemented with ajax/ahah requests, but I would be really interested for you to expand upon this aspect of the project.
Well done!
Flash was the preferred
Flash was the preferred choice of the client. I believe its purely a matter of taste. The requirements for the site were not totally amenable through flash templates (the most preferred way if I may say so), so we had to propose the use of flex for interface with drupal for managing site content.
You are correct that it would have been easier and cheaper to use ajax for the site aspects. But flash medium do give a better appeal to the site and goes very well with certain niche segments. In the end its all a matter of choice.
