I think that rather than maintaining its own list of country codes/names, this module should be getting it's country list from the countries_api module, which also maintains a complete list of ISO country codes and provides a fairly rich api for working with them.

Since the functionality this module provides was added to core in Drupal 7, no further development is being done to this module.
