or help example says drush dl drupal but that does not work. I would expect to receive latest 6.x release in this case.

drush dl project-HEAD is in the code comments but does not work either.

Committed a fix for the above, and also an unpublished release node issue - we just error out on HEAD now, since that is too annoying to parse from the update XML.
