On the user edit page, the account information (set password, timezone, etc) and the fields from field API are showing on the same page. I think it makes sense to seperate them - it makes for sense from the UI perspective that a user views his profile and edits it, while account settings are edited on a different page.

The patch doesn't utilize the user module's categories, which might be another approach to do this.

I think user module implementing it's own category would probably work better. Some sites are bound to end up with both profile and field modules enabled and having a some level of consistency would be good.

Also please post one single patch with all changes.

Also, I don't think it's wise to force this separation, can it be configurable? There are certain sites who don't want to force people to fill in profiles but would also like to have as many as possible submissions. Moving profile to separate page (as in Drupal 6) means not that many users will find that information.
