problem with panel gmap that reverts to view when filter applied.

I have a panel page that includes a gmap created via views and enabled as a panel pane. The map shows locations based on an exposed filter with taxonomy terms.

For example, suppose the vocabulary included the terms beach, mountain, city. When the panel page is first viewed and the filter defaults to "any", the map shows correctly in the panel and shows all of the locations.

However, when a user selects a term from the drop down box and hits "apply", the page loads the result in the view (no longer in a panel). I need to the resulting map (when a filter is applied) to continue to be displayed in the panel page.

How do I accomplish this?
