removing banner region, bread crumbs/site info/ primary link etc from garland

on the garland theme theres the header region and the left side bar/content/ right side bar regions.
Inbetween these theres that banner/area that contains site info, site name, bread crumbs and primary links.

I would like to remove that whole area, so mysite will have the header region then the main contant region immediately beneath.

How would I do this.
