When I try to run the update.php script I get the following error:

<b>Fatal error</b>Call to undefined function audio_get_tags_allowed() in <b>/usr/local/share/drupal6/modules/audio/audio.install</b> on line <b>335</b><br />

I also tried version 6.x-1.x-dev with similar results.

On second thoughts, never mind. It turns out that Drupal was trying to update the module even though I hadn't activated the module yet :-(.

Marking as closed, as although I consider the upgrade process broken I am not concerned enough to want to chase up the actual cause.

you should leave this open even if you don't want to take care of it. some other people might run into it and want to fix it and the maintainer might want to look into it. The upgrade path is not complete as the release notes indicate: http://drupal.org/node/262540
