its not perfect but here i try to explain as plain text mockup (look at it as 2 columns layout)

notes:
- this is just a mockup to give a general idea
- XMLHttpRequest ad toggle should be used to expand/fold items which is alreaddy used on 4.7
- this layout eliminates the right column on the right of the current layout
- this layout should be represent best in drawing that intent to some point if necessary
- please chip in your additions and comments

Priority: Critical » Normal

Please try to make a mockup of what you mean in a graphics program, this does not make sense to me, and it is actually my daily work to translate designs into HTML ...

I don't really think it is critical if nobody cared to work on this for more than half a year, so I marked it normal.

also, please try to explain why your mockup would be better than the current page.

While i didn't took the time to look at the proposition (as said, a screenshot plz), it is true that there's tons of wasted space on the drupal.org frontpage. The "Drupal 4.7.3 and 4.6.9 released" is huge, has been there for ages, and isn't providing much more than the nice looking "download" block. We could just add 4.6.9 as a link in this block. Right now, one must scroll down to view the news. The padding between the top row of blocks (download etc) and the next block is also too big.

Providing a better view of the news of the community by adding these changes would improve user experience on drupal.org, IMO.

yes you are right ontwerpwerk + FiReaNG3L, it needed a graphical mockup than i could not find time..thanks foor reminding this

attached mockup showns only the MODULES 'block'
and proposed site tempate made by 2 columns equally divided a block for the each
Blocks are current tab items+rearrange sub above on this site with a re-layout with the help of the views.module comes into use!

so you get

MODULES | FORUM

SUPPORT | HANDBOOKS

GROUPS | CONTRIBUTE

each need its own mockups similar but with slight different feature to fit the section needs
if it makes sense i'll do (when i have time) other section mockups to makes the whole layout put together.

additional mockup attached
Just some additional thought of colur coding to versions (there was an idea to nickname/coding each versions -ala mac 'panther' or windows 'vista'- on forums
so a colour code also can be an addition too) and better for the point of view of UI

- I also altered the ordering of the versions -latest should come on top!

Status: Active » Closed (fixed)

I'll guess this issue can be closed - the module index has seen under continuous improvement and unless I'm mistaken this issue has received little interest and is still unclear.

Yes its both true my post and the mockups received little interest and there has been some improvements on that area altough its not exactly same direction on my post
i think on Joomla site -with their 'extentions' section has better UI on their site on that front
I tried to interpret similar approach for Drupal structure and format as structural and UI improvement
also Jommla has feature of star rating -which there was may requests to employ the same for Drupal modules
