I spend a bit of time trying to help in the support forums; sometimes there's closure, and sometimes not :-(
Would it not be useful to be able to tag a particular post as 'resolved' so that its status could be used as a search criterion?
I realise that it's not that simple, but it's a thought.

I agree, it would be very useful to have something like the issue status - "active", "active (needs more info)", and "fixed" would cover our needs, I think.
As far as I know http://drupal.org/project/comment_alter_taxonomy is used for the issue queues, so all we'd need is a new vocabulary for forum posts.
