Is there any module or code snippet that can automatically show new posts that have been promoted to the front page without the user needing to refresh the browser or click anything?
This could just be a reload of data every ten minutes or something, but looking for similar functionality to Monitter (http://monitter.com/), or Facebook's News Feed, or Gmail's email inbox. Maybe AJAX or AHAH combined with Rules module and/or Views module?

I'm running Drupal 6.

I'm looking for a solution as well, for an Intranet. I'd like a little message to pop up somewhere on the page simply alerting the user there is new content, with a link to refresh the page. Kind of like how Twitter shows:

"There have been (X) new tweets in your timeline. Show new tweets.
