Viewing Content in Side blocks / and on the front page

Hey guy's

I'm a novice to the use of drupal , i just stepped over from Joomla and I'm learning my way through Drupal.

I am trying to display node content on the front page .
My home page has content but in the left bar and right bar i want to display other content that i have placed in a node.

I have a template that was build in xhtml/css and i'm using blocks as 's, for every div i have in my xhtml template i create a new block and i want to display the content of a node in that block.

Can anyone help ?
