First off I am very new to Drupal, CMS and php. In the past I built my site in HTML using dreamweaver or just paid someone to do it for me. Now I need to redesign it and decided to use drupal after some comments from friends.

The install went fine. No problems what so ever. The first thing I did was to find a theme I liked and installed it. Then I customized the header image to include 2 photos. The photos will be replaced with 2 more before launch. On recommendations from friends I have installed the following modules: Panels, cck, views, gallery, shadowbox, ctools, and advanced help. While these look like they do some neat things they do me know good if I can not figure out how to create a simple static page. I have created all of my main pages with the create content>pages tool but I am lost on how to add content to those pages. Do I just create the content in HTML like normal and paste it into the body field?

I am a photographer and my site will be image heavy and text light. I posted about image galleries and got a link to a group and found that the ones I liked best used the gallery module which ported Gallery2 over into drupal. I have gallery2 installed and am just waiting on my tech rep from my hosting company to help me smooth out a database problem with Gallery2.

So can someone please help push me in the right direction in simple terms because I am still not used to all of this php talk.

Yes, this is generally the approach to get your main content and HTML into a webpage. If the 'body' is going to include HTML then be sure to change to Input Format (on the page content screen) to FULL HTML, otherwise most of your HTML will be stripped out.

Installing those modules, while useful (and I would go so far as to say cck and views are indispensable at this point), is analogous to learning how to swim by jumping into the atlantic ocean, lol. Don't worry about enabling all of them until you find you need to do something that what you currently have installed won't allow you to do.

As for getting started, i suggest checking out http://drupal.org/handbook/customization/tutorials/beginners-cookbook.
