This issue is several months old. Could you please test and answer the following questions.
1. Please upgrade to 6.x-1.x-dev and verify that this is still an issue
2. Does this only happen for required attributes? See #629416: Dropdowns revert to default state after selection
2. Is this only happening in IE8, or are you seeing similar behaviour in other browsers?
