How would one implement user comments a la myspace, where another user could leave a comment on a users profile, but not necessarily on to a node? This would be a comment that all users could see. Anything like this exist?

There's a modification of profile.module out there somewhere which allows for profiles to be classified as nodes, thus allowing not only comments but also ratings, book pages, etc. The author was as of maybe six weeks ago planning to update this for 4.7, but I don't think it's happened yet.

There's a Guestbook module for Drupal 4.6.x that does this.
