Can you tell me what version of Drupal you are using? The internal file handling has changed rather much in Drupal core.

I no longer am having the same problem, but as far as I know, it was 4.7.2.

As you say, file handling has changed a lot now and this no longer occurs. I should have marked it fixed a long time ago. Apologies for that.
