Is it possible to have menu items that don't open up a new page but are merely expandable containers?
This could be either with or without javascript -- so a page would just reload with the menu item expanded?
(I know this is ugly UI but it appears to be what my client wants. Go figure.)

I was about to suggest the special menu items module, but I see you're using D5.
Did you take a look at this forum topic?

This is exactly my issue. Pixture Reloaded, enabled Superfish, using Special Menu Items to create just a placeholder, no link, with sub-menus. The theme breaks. Have no idea how to fix it. Very frustrating. Any ideas?
