Hi there,

My apologies for venting my frustrations here. But if i don't do it here, where else can i feedback to? Right first things first. All i want to do is just categorize my contents.

For example, i want to have the following categories:
1. Company - Information Company.
2. Service - All forms of services falls under here.
3. Resources - All resources or Educational Materials falls under this category.
4. Miscellaneous - Events and additional info here.

I understand that with taxonomy, i can add keywords under these categories etc. And that these terms would make it easier for users to search my contents and so does the search engine crawler. However, how do i put it in such a way whereby when i create a content, it can show me a menu to choose under WHICH category this content should fall under.

Such a simple requirement and i had to dig into taxonomy, views and even Hierarchical Select. Yet I still cannot achieve what i wanted! Can someone PLEASE explain how to put it together. Perhaps there should be such an example IN the handbook or somewhere.
Thank you.

Rgrds,
Xyber.

Hi,

You have checked on the 'edit vocabulary' page - admin/content/taxonomy/edit/vocabulary/[vid] - that your vocabulary is enabled for some content types, right? Sorry if that sounds condescending, but you can create all the Taxonomy vocabs and terms you like - until you associate them with a content type they won't show up on the node edit form. However, once you have selected one, or more, content types to use with a vocabulary, your node edit form should include a select element to allow you to associate a term with that node. If that's not showing up, then something strange is going on. You might want to temporarily turn off any extra taxonomy modules you have installed while you investigate what's going on - you should be able to do what you want with just the core Taxonomy module.

1. Create a new taxonomy, for Story nodes in this case. http://img.skitch.com/20090516-rhpa9hskd9s3hp8r8217eu8s2f.jpg

2. Add terms to it, one by one, until you have four say. http://img.skitch.com/20090516-b1758jhswr8nfa3eq34si6jmuc.jpg

3. Create a new Story node, see the taxonomy selector. http://img.skitch.com/20090516-898bwp83bri67fj8gwapacreu2.jpg

OK, you definitely win 'support forum employee of the month' award for that - not only screenshots of each step, but personalised with the OP's own taxonomy vocab name! I'm impressed and humbled ... From now on, whenever clients ask for support, I'm giving them your email address, OK? ;-)

Thank you for point it out. My problem was that i didn't realize about the checkbox for multi select, which is why the drop downmenu did not appear.

For those who face this problem, follow Lyricnz's instructions. Then create another vocab called "Keywords" and enable multi-select for this one to contain keywords on your stories. This way, you will have two main vocab, one for a fixed category(Which helps alot when you want to customize using modules like "Views"). And the other a library which will be populated with keywords pertaining to your stories.

To show like teasers on blocks on your main page, use the module "Views" and if you still cannot grasp it, add on the module "Advanced Help". And view their examples. If you are unsure, just drop me an email at thisismyrealemailadd@gmail.com
