Restrict access to certain pages?

Is there a way to restrict access to certain pages to user types by simply adding the link?

For example:

Restrict drupalwebsite.com/search/user/*

not allowing users to search for other users.

I read the first link before, I wasn't able to get rid of the tab...the other solution here was the:

2. Use Taxonomy Access to prevent users from pointing to yoursite.com/search/user

is there a tutorial on how to do this, as far as I can see the taxonomy access can only control access for taxonomy.

For some reason the users tab is still there even though its not enabled...is there a way to remove the user's email from showing up when you search for users with php? I couldn't find it anywhere in my theme.

to remove the users tab, have a look at the first google search I linked. There is at least one disucssion on the first page.
