Restrict access to certain pages?

Is there a way to restrict access to certain pages to user types by simply adding the link?
For example:
Restrict drupalwebsite.com/search/user/*
not allowing users to search for other users.

I read the first link before, I wasn't able to get rid of the tab...the other solution here was the:
2. Use Taxonomy Access to prevent users from pointing to yoursite.com/search/user
is there a tutorial on how to do this, as far as I can see the taxonomy access can only control access for taxonomy.
