I need to make some screen capture video clips for my users to show them how to use some of the features of my website. Im not familiar with video editing software, but I thought I would ask here, as Im sure there are several users here doing this kind of thing.

suggestions?

http://camstudio.org is open source and works pretty good. The costly 800lb gorillas in this space are http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp and http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate

We have used Camtasia Studio quite effectively.

It's reasonably easy to use, and has some nice features like a "autozoom" that does a reasonable job of tracking cursor movements. This is particularly important if (as is common) you have a site design that works best at something like 1024x768 screen resolution, but you re trying to produce video at 640x480 or smaller AND keep the on-screen text and menus visible. It also has some nice features for setting up preferred output formats, and for adding voiceovers to a prior recording in chunks and keeping the timing in sync. (doing voiceovers is more challenging than you think).

As the previous reply says, this is commercial software and not cheap. I'd be interested to hear how the freeware option works.
