New magazine style site!?

caminoz74 - May 17, 2009 - 15:57

Hi,

I am wanting to start a new magazine style site and was hoping some folk could give me few tips on modules to integrate including whether Drupal 5, 6 or 7 is most appropriate... the site will need the following functions

1. free monthly newsletter
subscription based - containing general info, some ads, plus a summary of the latest 'public section of the site' content.

2. Paid monthy e-zine/magazine
suscription based - containing general info, some ads, plus a summary of the latest 'private section of the site' content. The e-zine can also be downloaded as a pdf (possibly E-publish, http://drupal.org/project/epublish). Monthly E-zine's need to be archived.

3. Shopping cart
There needs to be a shopping cart associated with product advertisments in the site, newsletter and ezine

4. Discussion forum
suitable discussion forum for paid subscribers

5. CRM
I currently intend to integrate civicrm to manage clients which will have follow up emails/communication and require a tracking of service history. This will also allow for grouped correspondance based on identified client preferences.

I would really appreciate any help people could give.

Thanks in advance!!

Use Drupal 6.x

5.x is on its way out when 7.x is released and 7.x isn't ready to be released.

1) simplenews.module
2) ubercart.module
3) ubercart.module
4) core has forums built in
5) civicrm is the only option I am aware of.

newsletter/ezine subscription details integrated with civicrm?

caminoz74 - May 17, 2009 - 16:36

thanks for the quick repsonse...

I am concerned that simplenews will not easily allow subscribers to enter a range on details about themselves nor does it have the capacity to realtime integrate with civicrm (i may be wrong though)?

I am also wondering whether using ubercart as the vehicle for paid subscription registration has the capacity to realtime integrate with civicrm using multiple fields of reg details i.e. name, psotcode, interests

thanks

civicrm has its own modules with it, I don't know which ones it has but thaty is teh place you will want to investigate first as there may be modules you can't use

Their community is better suited to answer your questions with regards to the Civicrm integration.

Adding subscriber details

I don't know about integrating Simplenews with CiviCRM, but you can use the core profile module to add whatever fields that you want subscribers to have to fill in, and since that is part of core, everything should (hopefully) integrate with that to some extent.
