I'm new to organic groups (it's a bit confusing isn't it) and am having difficulty posting information.

I can post a message and it appears on the frontpage (promote to frontpage checked) but the same message doesn't appear in the group itself. The group page is completely empty even though there are 5 posts now,

Any help appreciated.

when you created your content type, did you choose the option

Standard group post (typically only author may edit).

under the Organic Groups heading?

Yes - I selected this.

My understanding is correct isn't it that messages posted to the group should display on the group homepage?

If you setup the content type correctly, it should appear by default using the og_ghp_ron View. the "ron" representing River of News, meaning all group content (posts, thread topics, etc.) that are assigned to a specific group, will appear on that groups homepage, one after another...

Did you see an option (checkbox) when you posted your content, to assign it to an existing group? By default, if you were on the group's "homepage", and you tried to create a new group post, the checkbox would be set to the current group. But you have the option to enable cross group posting (posts from one group, can show up in others). Perhaps you unckecked the box for the group you were posting in?
