Seems like the map displays even if there is no location associated with the node.

I have not looked at your patch yet, but I hope it involves a switch that allows or disallows this functionality. I could see users wanting both behaviors. Will check it out soon, though.

I have made updates for this. I used your basic principle, but changed it to an option in the field configuration as well. "Data Dependent Map".
