Using Code to Upload a File

I need to create a page which contains many private file downloads (which will change relatively often). I would like to take all the exe's from a directory and attach them to a page so that they are only accessible to authenticated users (and eventually users with certain roles). How would I go about about doing this for a specific node and list of files?
