upgrading drupal from 61.0 to 6.12 - mappingkit maps lost map client "openlayers", the map client is set to "internal" and there is no the "openlayers" option. Trying to display maps report:
# openlayers_init_header does not exist
# openlayers_render_body does not exist

- openlayers module is not installed, but the issue is present also when openlayers module is installed

Did you also install the separate OpenLayers project from http://drupal.org/project/openlayers? At this moment, this module cannot coexist with the openlayers map client from the mapping kit. The next release of the mapping kit won't have this problem anymore.
