It would be nice to have a schedule functionality to flag and unflag items on certain dates or after certain amount of time, something like the scheduler module http://drupal.org/project/scheduler. I know that this can be done by using rules but it would be nice to have a more straightforward approach.

Such functionality probably won't be built into the flag.module directly, it'd likely be a separate project.
