Issue Summary
Hi,
I'm not sure this is a bug, but an author is duplicated if he enters his name as "Smith, John K" and then as "J.K. Smith". I would expect, since both formats are accepted, that the names are merged so that in the end there's only one corresponding author (i.e. consider it is the same person if the same family name and if the initial corresponds to the first letter of the first name). This is quite an important issue for us.
Best regards,
Sorina

No this is not a bug, it's by design. If the name is being entered on the input form, you should have an "auto-complete" drop down shown which will show similar authors which already exist in the database to choose from. You can merge these authors, but it requires human intervention since there is really know reliable why for the system to determine if they refer to the same person or not.
