The Handbook Style Guide http://drupal.org/node/338208 says:

All main headings, subheadings, the name Drupal, and the titles of books and magazines use initial caps. [e.g.:]
Things We Made with Drupal

There is an exception for titles of news articles and forum topics, which are supposed to use sentence case.

There is no exception stated for Book page titles, but I think every book page title in the Handbook (including the style guide itself) uses sentence case.

Also, the heading capitalization guideline is not applied consistently on the style guide page itself -- several of the H2 headings use sentence case rather than all initial caps, and the others use initial caps. The Handbook at large is also inconsistent (of course), but it seems to me as though the Handbook, Drupal, and the world at large are moving towards sentence case for headings.

Thoughts? If we are continuing to recommend Initial Caps for Headings, then we should at least fix the Style Guide so that it conforms.

Why did you mark this as fixed? The style guide page itself does not consistently apply its own style. That at least should be fixed.

I fixed the style guidelines page so at least its own headers comply with its guidelins

I'm reopening this issue. I didn't see it when it came up originally and I have a suspicion that the change to the style guide to require all cap titles was made without discussion. If it was discussed, perhaps someone could point me to that issue and I apologize for bringing it up again. However, since most of the handbooks follow the sentence case style and a fair bit of effort has gone into getting them more or less consistent, it's worth being clear why the change to title case is needed. See also #543192: Title formatting on help pages.

I also note that sentence case is used most everywhere on drupal.org (albeit inconsistently).

yup - LeeHunter, you're right - as just noted on #543192: Title formatting on help pages (which i just closed), we are using sentence case in the help pages (which is my understanding of the standard in practice). this got confused at some point because there were discrepancies all over the place, but as far as i know, the style guide (ironically) is now wrong and needs to be updated.

I did some work on this yesterday (DrupalCon SF 2010 sprint). Since sentence caps seem to be what Drupal is moving toward overall, that's the way I set it up.

Also, hopefully the page itself is now consistent with its own style guide ;)

I'd be interested in feedback on the editing job.
