From John McSweeney's notes at the Galway session (see #449924: Notes regarding Getting Started and Cookbook docs).

The Cookbook http://drupal.org/handbook/customization/tutorials/beginners-cookbook is written in a first-person style. This violates the official doc style guidelines: http://drupal.org/node/338208#writingstyle

So the whole Cookbook needs to be edited for style. There may be other violations as well.

Note that "dcor" from the same Galway session mentioned above, also mentioned the first-person style of the Cookbook as being annoying, confusing, jolting.

Those are guidelines not rules. Feel free to edit and change the cookbook to 3rd person, but if we listed every 1st person document in the issue queue, we would have 800 issues!

reopening. The cookbook is a central piece of documentation and I'd like this to remain open for discussion.

Marking this critical, as I think it belongs in the top priorities for the docs team, along with the D7 docs updates - the Cookbook is LONG overdue for some updates, including updating style to meet the docs guidelines.

I've fixed the first person content and made the headings consistent with Drupal style. Also removed some chunks of content that didn't belong. The cookbook could still use some work but I think I've addressed the essence of this issue.
