From notes by dcor at the Galway session -- see #449924: Notes regarding Getting Started and Cookbook docs
This is in regards to the Drupal Cookbook for Beginners http://drupal.org/handbook/customization/tutorials/beginners-cookbook
Apparently, some of the information in the Cookbook is specific to particular platforms -- the author was using WinAMP rather than LAMP, for instance, and there may be other differences for MAMP.
Also, there may be some things that don't apply or are different if you are using a Drupal Distribution, such as Aquia's distribution.
So, someone needs to go through the Cookbook and edit with this in mind. Examples dcor mentioned:
- acquia installs several modules already...
- mamp/wamp may give a user that much more control at initial installation...
- break down of directories...
- Accessing Your Test Site(s) ----- Add1sun reports this is only pertaining to that particular stack... after I asked based on acquia's intallation...

MGParisi commentedI do not support Acquia installs in documentation... As with any Distro, these should be done on Acquia, or included by the company itself. I dont beleive it should clutter the base Drupal Handbook.
I was thinking of adding a Getting Started for Drupal Version 6...
We can copy the D5 version, and start working on that version, leaving the Drupal Version 5 as it is.
Edit: clarrified my position in Acquia.

MGParisi commentedIn regards to this beign a part of Beginners Cookbook, it is out of scope to give MAMP/LAMP/WAMP advice. A reference to such sites are provided.
I removed Aquia, I would request a sub page for Distrobutions, however Acquia does not belong with WAMP/LAMP/MAMP and XAMP
Breakdown of directories can also be a sub page, but is it covered anywhere else (this is another issue)
I dont know what to do of accessing your test sites(s) page. I will consult Add1sum.

add1sun commentedHm, Ok, so it looks like all of the site install stuff was moved out of the cookbook. If so, we can close this I think.
