Hi
I want to trigger an action some time after an event has occurred.
Not quite sure how to do this.
I created a rule using one of the standard events available in the drop-down and a rule-set with a "scheduled evaluation date & time" in the future. How do I now hook up an action to be executed at this future date & time?

I believe its in this fashion "+30 day"

yep, or better +30 days - this should work. Else you can still rely on the php input filter.
