Well, it's complete.. My first fully functioning drupal site for a friend/client of mine, musician/producer Ray Lyon... check it out here, and let me know what you think...

If the site loads slow, blame powweb. :) I will hopefully be transitioning his site to site5.com soon...

The theme is a modified version of the FriendsElectric theme.. I found this theme one of the most powerful, as far as control over the design. It still has some bugs in IE6 (or should I say IE6 has some bugs?), but hopefully IE7 will come out soon and I won't have to worry about that... :)

Modules used

  • Audio module: This module was essential, and you should check out the work drewish has been doing on the version for 4.7.. Can't wait to upgrade!
  • e-Commerce: An essential...
  • gsitemap: This is a great module (although there seems to be a bug between it and the e-Commerce module), and I highly recommend working with google sitemaps.
  • tinymce: This is also a good module, although not good for editing posts that were created without it (It strips any css it doesn't recognize.)
  • There are plenty of other implemented modules, but those are ones that I've been most pleased with, and wanted to highlight...

I'm not sure how it happened, but all of the modules got disabled... ever heard of that?

Congratulations on your site, it looks good in Firefox 1.5.

re. tiny_mce stripping any css it doesn't recognize.

I imagine this might not be a problem for you anymore, but did you try extending the set of html elements and attributes that tiny_mce will allow?

Using an example from the tiny_mce website, we configured template.php (in our theme directory) to allow class and style attributes just for table cells.

For how to customize a tiny_mce theme: http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/tinymce/INSTA... (look in the "TWEAKING THE TINYMCE THEME" section at the bottom)
For lists and examples: http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/tinymce/docs/option_extended_valid_elements...

Thanks for the info... I will check that out..

Not much of an issue for this site, since the owner will be using tinymce for all of his new pages/posts... So as long as he doesn't edit the content that I have put on there, we shouldn't encounter any problems... :)

Thanks for checking it out..

cheers

Congratulations on the super nice site! Did you use Dreamweaver to edit the FriendsElectric theme? If so, can you tell us about how you set up Dreamweaver to do the editing? I've followed the handbook howto but am still not getting a wysiwyg interface. I'd sure love to know your experience of setting up your first site...

I'm just amazed at the changes you made to the original theme!

Kudos to you!

I used Adobe Illustrator to create my new theme, and then just cut up the individual pieces that I needed to fill in the design.. If you look at the friendselectric theme, a lot of the hard work is already done.. Each section of the design is labeled for you.. bg-left.jpg, bg-right.jpg, main-top-left.jpg, main-top-right.jpg, etc. etc... After getting all the various images, I had to change a few things in the CSS (margins and div heights) to reflect the differences in size between my design's images, and the original theme images. I hope that answers your question...

Thanks for the positive feedback!

check out the themedev module.. Although I didn't use this to create the site, I've heard that it is very helpful...

cheers

I think your site is very attractive.
Nice work.

The only barriers that exist are the ones we create!

Yeah, some similarities to your site (That is if this is the same GSMK from an earlier post....), with the moon & atmospheric feel in the header...
