theme for artist

Does anyone know of a theme that would work well for an artist? One that would work similar to this wordpress theme http://media2.smashingmagazine.com/images/gallery-wordpress-theme/large-...

Thanks,

dh_, the link you posted to the Wordpress theme returned an error 404 for me. I can, however, make some recommendations for choosing a theme!

  1. The theme should place focus on the purpose of the site. If you are choosing a theme for an artist who writes prolific blog entries, something with a familiar blog-style layout would probably be best. If, on the other hand it's intended as a portfolio site, choose a theme that has enough custom regions to place things like image galleries and lists of content.
  2. In general, if the site's main purpose is to serve as a portfolio of the artist's works, you probably want to choose a theme that has a good sense of visual hierarchy, but that's also simple. Having a theme that's too colorful or too busy can really distract from the artist's pieces.
  3. If you're not planning to do extensive customization on the theme after it's been set, consider choosing a colorable theme. That way if the default color clashes with most of the artist's pictures you can choose a different (probably more neutral) color. I seriously doubt that any of the bright blue type themes would be pleasant for any artist's website as the blue could be really distracting from their work.
  4. Most people will probably prefer a theme that looks more professional, especially if it's being used as a showcase of works.

Some recommendations for themes: Marinelli because it has many layout options, deco for it's neutral color scheme and versatile layout, Twilight because it looks simple and clean and can be recolored, Magazeen for it's good typography and opportunity to place the focus on images, Simply Modern for its clean lines, and Painted Wall if you're looking for more of a novelty sort of feel.
