I've never built a website at all and, although it's a little ugly at the moment, I'm proud that I have a fully functional store built with Drupal 6 and Ubercart 2. My store sells kids cups, the kind of souvenir cups you might find in a restaurant or at special events, online, factory direct. I'm excited that a complete newb could put this together in a pretty short time and I can process credit cards and provide shipping estimates.

Take a look at the power of Drupal and Ubercart:

Hey there -- what a wonderful idea for a site! Very sweet.

One marketing suggestion: In the product descriptions, point out the price per cup, both in the main part and in the "bulk discount" section. It wasn't immediately clear to me... this would make comparison shopping easier.

Best of luck with it!

Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to provide thoughtful feedback. I've shared your suggestion with "the boss" and he's going to mull it over for a few days. Count me among the newbs who got started with your Lynda.com Drupal Essential Training course: http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=620. What a painless and helpful way to get started.

I'm looking forward to your next Lynda.com project.

Happy Day,

David

What a coincidence! It's so nice to hear that the videos were useful. You can read about the next one at http://tomgeller.com/content/new-lyndacom-video-series-presenting-inform... , which should be out this summer.

Totally offtopic... your "Fun Ocean Friends" illustration looks like it could have been done by one of my favorite cartoonists, Nina Paley (ninapaley.com). :) How *do* you get your illustrators? I know some (besides her) whose style would fit well.

... I think. We are associated with Airlite Plastics which is a good sized plastic manufacturer and we have an art department. I'm pretty sure a couple folks from that art department just fiddled around with some clip-art to come up with these.

I'm anxiously awaiting the the next video series.

On a completely different note, perhaps you can point me in the right direction for my next project. I'm tasked with creating a multimedia training manual related to house construction. The final version will be distributed on DVD. I'll be gathering material almost daily and I thought I would hone my new Drupal skills and build a collaborative website where I could post the the raw media (photos and video) collected each day and the folks I'm working with could all participate with feedback or copywriting etc.

Then it occurred to me that this website could just "be" the manual when all was said and done. However, I must be able to distribute it on DVD. Ideally I envision dropping a DVD in a player and having it run up a web server an database and open a browser all contained on the DVD. Does such a thing exist? If not, can you imagine how to put the pieces together to build it?

Come to think of it, I guess that's not a completely different note at all, after all, you are the training video guy !!! If my conception of simply transferring a Drupal site to a self-contained DVD is a pipe dream, perhaps you can suggest the tools I should explore for authoring a training DVD that will consist of text, photos and video and be organized in chapters with a brief overiew and intro and the ability to drill down to details within each chapter.

TIA and Happy Day :)

Hey Daveydo I really like your idea for your cup site. it's very clean and simple. I agree with the suggestion that tgeller made about the price I was a little confused about the price per cup. The theming is simple and strait to the point great job.

I've been frustrated that I'm not able to quickly and easily make it look a bit more professional. I think, however, for what we're doing it doesn't need to be too slick. The simple, unadorned style reinforces the idea of value, factory direct, low overhead and all that. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to learning more and getting better with theming so I can at least get things to appear the way I imagine they ought to.

cheers,

david

congrats on your site start up!
bigger pics of the cups would be nice, especially showing the kids using them.

I agree. I'll update the site when I got the photos.
