Is it possible to turn off the randomly selected items as the client only wants particular items for each product.

Also, the same products seem to be turning up repeatedly in the random selection.

The ideal situation for me (if there is no switch I'm missing!) would be hack the code and put it in my template.php, but when I tried that before it didn't seem to effect anything - I called it like this:

function phptemplate_uc_upsell_block_contents($id = 0) {

anybody know where I'm going wrong?

There are options in the Upsell settings that allows you to turn on and off random product insertion. Please give that a shot and let me know if it works for you.

With regard to the random products being added, I'm not 100% sure why it would still be doing that, as I'm unable to produce it on my copy. Can you try the latest Dev release and see if you still have the issue there? I want to release a new stable, but it needs some more testing.

EDIT: I also noticed you put this issue in for version 1.9. You can also try the latest stable, 1.13, and see if that also fixes the issue. Notice it's a month older than the latest Dev release, so give either one a shot. AFAIK there are no other major changes, a lot of it has been improving the backend code and doing some cleanup.
