File attachments making a MESS of our /files directory
steve02476 - May 29, 2009 - 00:44
We have several people working on our Drupal site, all busily attaching files to their page nodes (images, pdf documents, etc.). All of these files are getting dumped into the /files directory which is getting to be an outrageous mess at this point.
Is there some way to specify a subdir of the /files dir when attaching a file to a content node?
Is my best bet something like Upload Path module? http://drupal.org/project/uploadpath
Thanks.

Thanks but ???
Thanks for the suggestion! I've downloaded and installed FileField Paths, but now I'm totally clueless about how to use it - I don't see any difference to the file upload UI at all. I've also posted this question to the FileField Paths project area:

You don't say whether you are using the core upload or cck filefield method for 'attachments', but assuming core upload, there will be a new 'path settings' fieldset in the 'workflow settings' fieldset under the attachments enable/disable option on the edit form for each content type.

As my teenaged kids would say, OMG!
I found what you are referring to:
Administer >> Content Management >> Content Types
Then I clicked Edit on the Page Content Type (which is the content type we mostly use).
Then, within Workflow Settings was a closed up Path Settings section.
Thank very much for the info, that gets me started.
If there was a clue to this on the ReadMe, I sure missed it! thanks for all your help. -Steve

you're welcome-- and you didn't miss anything. It just happened to be the first place I looked, lol.
