I get this error when I'm trying to change the color scheme in Pixture Reloaded theme (it's happen with other themes):
* The configuration options have been saved.
* The directory sites/default/files/color/pixture_reloaded-d9eae43b has been created.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/large-alert.png could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/bullet-round.png could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/bullet-sm-arrow-right.png could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/bullet-sm-arrow-down.png could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/button.gif could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/button-o.gif could not be copied.

* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/teaser-br.png could not be copied.
* The selected file/xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/themes/pixture_reloaded/images/logo.png could not be copied.
* The selected file /xx/xxx/xxxxx/xxxx.xxx/xxxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/xxx/sites/default/files/tmp/filexniDIH could not be copied.
I change the cmod of sites/default/files dir to 777 and all of the sub dir too, but it's still not working.

Same issue here
I get the same issue, have not found the instructive log entries like yours though. Probably my log configuration that is off.
I am trying to use Garland and want to change color scheme but when I use something different from the default blue the css gets all crazy and the site looks like 1997. My guess is that the generated files is not found or could not be copied as shahard333 describes.
