I removed the original .htaccess file from my server and thereafter renamed the new htaccess.tar_ file to .htaccess and since then am getting Internal Server Error. Should I have renamed the file htaccess.tar_ to .htaccess-cachestatic instead? Some clarification about this would be welcome and of great help.

It's a tarball, you need to extract it
