Is there a chance you might consider extending the core blog module for version 2? I would love to be able to deploy this capability to site users.
If you extended the core module, all of the blog menuing would be integrated. Look at the location module and gmap which can be integrated with any content type.

I am not really sure what you mean by version 2?
Have you tried the version in CVS? I think it has better user support if not let me know and I will implement it.
