If the caption editing page could be integrated with the upload page, I think this would greatly increase the usability and sleekness of the module. I am not sure what it would take to get this done. ajax, ahah or what have you.

I don't think thats a very good idea. If you upload more than 100 images, it is already quite hard to handle. In my opinion it should even be a lot less obtrusive than it is now.
