Because PO is coded as a payment method, in the checkout pane, there is no way to let the customer issuing a PO to then choose a specific payment method (credit card, cheque, money order, COD etc).

Or, is this already possible in the 6.0 version of this module?

This is already possible in the 6.x branch; there's a separate checkout pane for PO you can enable.
