Text with Dictionary and Track Words Looked Up?

webmanoffesto - June 5, 2009 - 07:47

Hi,

I hope this is the right place to ask this. I want to create a website for a linguistics project. The main window will include a text to read. To the left of that will be a list of words readers may want to look up. Readers will log in. I want them to be able to click to look up the word, and I want to track who looks up which words, and the total number of times each word has been looked up by all users. (Alternatively, the words could be hyperlinks in the text, tracked as previously mentioned.) Do you know how I can do that?

Tom

If you make the words nodes, you can get basic page view statistics with the core statistics module. Otherwise you'll probably want to look at one of the 3rd party webstats integration modules (woopra, piwik, firestats, google_analytics, etc).

E-book module

We're planning to include this type of functionality in the E-book module. Foreign words will be highlighted. Explanations will show up when the user hovers over the word, and all foreign words belonging to a page will show up in a block. It will also be possible to get all foreign words belonging to a site listed up.

We're not planning on implementing the logging you are asking for, but we might.

It will take weeks and months until the e-book module is ready. We start working on it today :)
