pahariwalla commentedI tried to just make the thing beep, thinking that this would be the quickest/easiest (though maybe no best) solution, but discovered that there is no native javascript function to "beep", so I'm going to have to figure out how to deal... I'm hoping that it will be easy have have javscript play a sound file,m but the last time i did that (granted, I was very new to browser apps), it was a real pain to make it work on all OS's and browsers...
Any help here would be greatly appreciated :-)

knytphal commentedThis would be an excellent feature and I've already had a couple of my users asking about being able to get notifications of some kind when a new IM arrives. If I get a chance I may look into some way to implement this, but I don't know if that's going to happen or not.

pahariwalla commentedDone !! Please see project page and/or README for details. You need to download a small file and put it in the IM module directory.
Audio Alerts - There are 4 events to which a sound can be assigned. User can override admin's settings by going to My Account | Edit. Admin can add more sounds by putting mp3 files in the modules "sounds" directory. User can turn sound on or off by clicking an icon in the Console.

jvdkolk commentedIt would be nice if the audio icon would dissappear when there are no sounds selected in by the Admin. I do not want sounds, but the icon suggests there are.
Thank you for this top module!

pahariwalla commented@jprakash Are you still having problems?
runerunerune commentedHi pahariwalla,
Great to have you back!
I've been having the same problems as described above, no sound no matter what. I've installed the small player-file, tested with different browsers (ie, ff, chrome, safari), but still it doesn't seem to work. Everything else seems to be working great (I do see duplicate messages every now and then, however, like mentioned in this thread).
Otherwise a great module, thanks for all you work!
Best, Rune

pahariwalla commentedThanks @runerunerune ... Sorry about the messy sound alerts. I suppose I should look into an alternative method for playing sounds. All I can really remember from when I added the sound support was struggling to find something (GPL) that I could get to work. Suppose it's worth another try. If anyone else out there has any ideas, please let me know.
runerunerune commentedCertainly no reason to apologize...I'm happily using your module. The sound alert would make it perfect for my community site (and Appbar integration), but I'm just happy you take the time to do all this good work.

pahariwalla commentedI've created a new issue that I'll use to post the most recent fixes to the sound alert support. It also contains instructions for ow to set it up. Please see #755834: Most recent sound alert status and use that ticket for any future comments on sound alerts. Thanks.
