How go I uninstall cleanly jstools?
I think it's related to the message I keep getting in my log entries "page not found" :sites/all/themes/ability/js/jquery.pngfix.js

I don't see how these problems would be related. It looks like jquery.pngfix.js is (or was) part of your theme. I don't see that jstools does anything with pngfix. Try clearing your cache tables. If that doesn't work, check if your theme is trying to load jquery.pngfix.js, and if it exists at the path above.

The above comment is correct. This is a theme issue and has nothing to do with jstools.module. Check your theme to ensure that the necessary file is where it is supposed to be according to the path in the error.
