I would like to use this module with postgres but it doesn't work. I'm willing to do some work on it or develop another version but it would be helpful to know what the mysql dependencies are.

When you say it doesn't work, could you be more specific? PostgreSQL version?

I've tested it with 8.3 and although it does throw a few warnings on install, they are not critical.

I agree that the module can be installed despite a few warnings, but some queries fail. I have not tested Biblio 6.x-1.5 thoroughly, but, at least, sort by author/title/type queries fail with: “ERROR: for SELECT DISTINCT, ORDER BY expressions must appear in select list”. I think the patches I had posted at http://drupal.org/node/372038 address these, but maybe they have not been merged.
Possibly, the OP can provide more details.
