I wonder if anyone could provide me with some advice on how to accomplish something in drupal.
I am making a site to promote my wife's holiday cottage. She visitors to be able to select a range of dates, a function to take bookings through paypal, and a calendar showing availablity and updating itself when orders are placed.
What is the best way of approaching this site? Which modules would you recommend?
Thanks drupal!

MERCI and Airplane
MERCI and Airplane Reservation are among the choices you have. They're not that mature yet however.
There's also an ubercart module in development, ubercart hotel. This is being developed privately, but looks like it will be released publicly once it's finished. It's probably the closest to what you want.
You may not be able to use Drupal for this project if you're pressed for time.
Thanks
Thanks - that was very helpful. Time isn't an issue, I can add the modules when they're ready. I prefer to stick with drupal.
Cheers
OpenResort
Also take a look at OpenResort. OR is a mature codebase for Drupal 5 and has a great installation profile.
Give it a look-see:

if you still are looking for a drupalsolution to the problem
try this one:
http://drupal.org/project/agreservations
it has all the things you need for a site with online and offline booking of
resources with the ability to pay online with ubercard. i also need
more info and bugreports regarding this module as i personally
don´t work in the acommodation industry and need especially info of
people who do, to tell me what you really need or expect from such a module.
Maybe just use VRBO and integrate
Just a suggestion to think laterally....
I use Drupal as my default choice for most things. That said, you'll get a lot of traffic through VRBO.com for the vacation rental and while you can integrate the VRBO calendar into your Drupal site, you can't integrate your Drupal calendar into VRBO.
So all in all, I think it's easier to use VRBO as your base calendar and integrate that into your holiday rental site. At least for us and most friends in our area (Yosemite National Park, United States), most business comes through VRBO anyway.
Yosemite Explorer - hiking and climbing in Yosemite (drupal)
you can't integrate your
i don´t know VRBO but i will implement 2way xml interfaces to online-bookingportals into agreservations.
